Annoying Things About Hip-Hop: Jay-Z, Joe Budden + More

Here at The BoomBox, we love us some hip-hop. We love it like Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake do. But sometimes, it drives us crazy -- cray, even. Let's face it, being a fan of this music means putting up with a lot of BS, and we're not even talking about the violent, profane, materialistic lyrics and lack of "proper singing" and live instrumentation that genre haters -- read: our parents -- have been spouting off about since the '80s. We're more or less down with all of those things, but we do have a list of beefs.

What follows are the nine things we find most annoying about hip-hop. Why only nine? To paraphrase Chris Rock's classic 'Nat X' sketches on 'SNL,' the Man wouldn't let us have 10. None of these grievances are going to make us trade in our dookie chains or stop reading rap blogs in hopes of discovering the next killer MC or must-have mixtape, but if hip-hop has taught us one thing, it's that we should speak our minds. On that note, let us clear our throats.

9. Release Delays

The next time a rapper begins a sentence with, "My album drops ..." feel free to start compiling your grocery list or thinking about what you might wear to work tomorrow. Anticipation is a wonderful thing, but release dates have become virtually meaningless. Take two of last year's bigger records: Young Jeezy's 'TM103: Hustlerz Ambition,' an album that was originally supposed to come out in 2009, and J. Cole's 'Cole World: The Sideline Story,' which emerged some two years after the North Carolina rhymer inked with Roc Nation. And then there's Dr. Dre's 'Detox,' a record we'll probably buy with social security money.

As Spinner.com reports, last year, 2011, will forever be known as the time that everybody went friggin' nuts for Adele. The singer has spent a record 16 weeks at the top of the charts, tying the record for the 'Titanic' soundtrack -- her heart will go on, and on, and on, and on -- adding to a long list of accolades far to lengthy to name right now.

Most recently, Adele's tearjerker, 'Someone Like You,' off her sophomore album, '21,' has been nominated for for Outstanding Song at the NAACP Image Awards, where artists like Beyonce, Chris Brown, Cee Lo Green, Anthony Hamilton, Wynter Gordon, Common and Lupe Fiasco, among others, are nominated. But we'll say that again, Adele has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award, according to Billboard.

Odd Pairings in Rap History: DMX, Marilyn Manson + More

They say opposites attract. In music, when sounds foreign to one other collide to form single cohesive tracks, we often call the results "mash-ups." To some, these are musical dreams; others see them as ear-opening opportunities to let different artists into their lives. Recently, rap royalty Queen Latifah and country legend Dolly Parton embarked on the ultimate odd pairing, joining forces in the film 'Joyful Noise.' To celebrate their sonic union, The BoomBox compiled a list of the 10 best unlikely collaborations involving rappers, singers, rockers and shocking entertainers. Grab a turntable and electric guitar and check them out.

10. Public Enemy & Anthrax

As Public Enemy led the charge for socially conscious hip-hop, the music carried boatloads of angst. 'Bring the Noise' was a perfect fit for heavy metal outfit Anthrax, who jumped on the song and literally brought the noise. The initial pairing happened because Chuck D saw Anthrax's Scott Ian wearing a Public Enemy T-shirt while performing. The track was recorded in 1991, and a joint-tour followed. Sounds like a match made in musical heaven.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Eminem Considering a Career Change to Sports Commentating??!

We know Detroit rap giant Eminem has been going through some changes over the past few years…getting off those pills and whatnot, developing a new rap group called Slaughterhouse, still making good music, and doing a decent job of staying out of the negative paparazzi gleam.

And now it seems that the mostly private Em has taken on a new challenge – doling out public opinions about and advice to pro sports teams! In a recent interview with GQ magazine, the rapper offered his thoughts on the seemingly, kinda, well, always iffy Dallas team:

“Just for the record — I ...
